Introducing Maximum Pro League

In Maximum Football, we wanted to create a fun and competitive card game that also maintained our core vision of allowing players to create their ultimate football universe. Enter Maximum Pro League.

Maximum Pro League (MPL) is Maximum Football’s unique take on the deckbuilding sports game that allows you to take the game’s powerful customization tools and build the online squad that YOU want to compete with. This is a mode unlike any other in the sports genre. Here’s how.

Starting Your Team

In MPL, you won’t be restricted to selecting from a collection of pre-existing teams while you unlock more options. No. In the MPL menu, you will find the exact same team creator that is available to you in the single-player game. Upload custom logos, create home, away, and alternate uniforms, and set your team’s name, city and playbooks. You MPL team is your opportunity to express your creativity on the field.

When you first log into MPL, you will be given over 60 cards to start your team. These cards can range across MPL’s four rarity levels: common, rare, epic, and legend. This will serve as your starter team and the foundation from which you will build your team. While the players on each card are auto-generated by the game, you can customize the details of any player in your deck. Rename them, change their appearance, and customize their equipment.

Let’s take a closer look at the cards.

  1. Position: The position this player is eligible to occupy on the field.
  2. Card Level: Each card can be increased in level up to level 10. We will talk more about leveling cards later in this blog.
  3. Personality (only on front): Each player has two personality traits that will give them a slight increase to a specific stat if paired with other players that have the same trait. This is referred to as “chemistry” in your roster. When a card reaches level 10, it receives an additional personality trait.
  4. Archetype: Each position has different archetypes that dictate what attributes the player is best at and which ones progress the fastest while leveling up. For example, linebackers can be either pass coverage, balanced, or run stoppers.
  5. Primary Attributes: A player’s primary attributes are the three most important attributes to the player’s archetype.
  6. Secondary Attributes (only on back): Secondary attributes are the next most important attributes for the archetype.
  7. Overall: The overall rating of the player, representing his general ability.
  8. Name: Player names (as well as info and appearance) can be edited in the customization menu found by pressing V when the card is selected.
  9. Rarity: A card’s rarity dictates its starting overall and overall cap when increased to max level. The higher the rarity, the higher both of these numbers will be.
    1. Grey – Common
    2. Blue – Rare
    3. Pink – Epic
    4. Legendary – Gold

Inspecting your card will give you some additional information such as tertiary abilities (other relevant abilities that receive an upgrade at each level), full list of attributes and ratings, an explanation of the player’s archetype and personality traits, as well a list of their relevant statistics. This is also where you will be able to level up your cards.

From the inspection menu, you are also able to customize your players. Rename them, update their equipment, change their number, and more. You can truly make your MPL team whatever you want them to be.

Building Your Roster and Depth Chart

Once you have opened your initial packs, it is time to set up your roster. In order for players to be added to your depth chart, they must first be added to your roster. From your collection screen, you can see every card you’ve obtained from the packs you’ve opened. From here, you can organize and filter your cards by position, rarity, and whether or not they are in your roster.

Your roster is the collection of players that will be available to you to field throughout the game and your depth chart determines who starts and backs up certain positions.

As you are rostering players, be mindful of their personality traits. These are denoted by an icon in the upper right hand corner of the player’s cards. If you roster enough players with the same personality type, you will receive a small boost to specific ratings.

These personality traits and corresponding ratings boosts include:

  • Heart – Work Ethic – Increases stamina
  • Trophy – Competitiveness – Increases speed
  • Crown – Leadership – Increases acceleration
  • Star – Professionalism – Increases agility
  • Fire – Aggression – Increases strength

Upgrading Your Team

As you play MPL, you will want to consistently upgrade the players on your roster. You can do this in several ways.

First, you can open card packs. While you can certainly purchase packs from the MPL shop to find new players, you can also unlock card packs and currency through daily log-in rewards and by completing challenges throughout the season. There are daily, weekly, and season-long challenges that you can track via the challenges menu in MPL.

So, the more you play, the more you can unlock for free!

You are also able to upgrade your existing cards by consuming unwanted cards in exchange for XP that is applied to an individual card. Each card can be leveled from 1 to 10, a number indicated in the top-right corner of card above the personality trait. Each level gives a ratings boost to the primary abilities of the card, a slightly smaller boost to the secondary abilities, and an even smaller boost to the tertiary abilities of the card. These are determined by the archetype of the card. The higher the rarity, the higher potential overall.

Compete Online

Once you have your roster and depth chart set, it’s time to take the field with your team. Match up against other MPL teams in fast-paced 4-minute quarter games. MPL’s matchmaking system will attempt to matchmake you with teams of a similar caliber.

You can also compete offline against CPU opponents that get stronger the more you improve your team.

Throughout the season, the game will track your wins, losses, best win streak, and other statistics. You’ll be able to track how you stack up against the field using the in-game leaderboard. The more you play and win, the higher you will climb throughout the season.
